Description
Madder or dyer's madder contains natural anthraquinone dyes such as alizarin, rubiadin, purpurin, found in the root of the plant.
In the medical tradition of Ayurveda madder has always been known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which promote rapid healing caused by various kinds of inflammations. The powder was also used for lightening pigmentation marks.
In modern cosmetics madder powder is mainly used for the hair colouring purposes. It has a purple and blue to reddish colour, which comes from the purpurin contained in the root. Thus, it has the ability to accentuate cool reds. Unlike henna, madder is more suited to being mixed with other plant colours.
- when mixed with henna, the colour is intensified for a strawberry to raspberry shade
- when mixed with turmeric or rhubarb, the result is a peach tone
Application: Mix the plant powder with hot water to obtain a smooth paste. Let the paste rest for approximately 10 minutes. Meanwhile, wash and towel dry the hair. Apply the paste starting at the roots, through the length of the hair, and leave on for 30-90 minutes. Rinse thoroughly thereafter.
- 100% natural
- for mixing with other plant powders
- free from chemical additives
