Ayurvedic Tips for Spring

Ayurvedic Tips for Spring

The transition from winter to spring is often physically difficult. Ayurveda has some tips for making this transition easier.

Spring is on the way! Nature is waking up again, the bees are out and about looking for nectar and the flowers are slowly making their way out of the ground.

More hours of daylight is also a blessing as during the dark winter months we often feel dull or depressed. The wisdom of Ayurveda can help us to get back into balance and reawaken our spirits. Here are a few tips!

Spring Cleaning

This classic spring activity can be hard to tackle, but by cleaning our living space we also make room in our minds and spirits. It's easy to feel fresh and clean when our living spaces are too!

One easy way to feel more refreshed is to let natural sunlight into your home. Open up your curtains, wash your windows and enjoy fresh essential oils like eucalyptus and juniper. Finally, decorate your home with bright colours and plants.

Cleanse Your Body

Spring is the perfect time for a mild ayurvedic cleansing. By doing so, we can drain the toxins, or the ama, that have accumulated in the body during the winter. Limit your consumption of sugar, dairy products, alcohol, caffeine and red meat severely for two weeks to give your body a break. At the same time, you should increase your water consumption, do yoga, rest and consume basic foods (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes ...). It's best to tackle these challenges with friends or in small groups so that you can support each other!

Strengthen Agni

In order to rekindle your spirits after winter, revive your digestive fire, or Agni. Start the day with a glass of warm lemon water. Enjoy ginger tea after every meal and eat fermented foods that boost the intestinal flora. Even walks encourage Agni.

Breathe

Sometimes the simplest tasks are the hardest. When we simplify our lives by consciously avoiding things, we create time and space to breathe, to simply be present and to enjoy the moment. Find ten minutes a day and do some breathing exercises (like pranayama). A very simple exercise, for example, is to count up to five when inhaling and exhaling. After each inhalation and exhalation, you take a short break. Over time, you can also increase the intervals (up to five on inhalation, eight on exhalation). This simple exercise helps reduce stress.

Connect with Nature

Now that plant life outdoors is growing and thriving again, be especially mindful of it and reunite with nature. This creates a sense of harmony. All you have to do is look around, greet the sun each morning, take walks outdoors and enjoy the tranquility. There is so much to see and discover!

With these simple but effective tips, you can overcome spring fatigue and have more energy! Enjoy a beautiful spring.
