Good sleep is more and more important in today's incredibly hectic times. However, it seems that we have more and more trouble sleeping these days. We spend more and more time in front of blue glowing screens, especially in the evening. This often results in having trouble falling asleep or sleeping through the night. After a few days of not sleeping well, you feel very sensitive to stress and out of energy

An Elixir for Sleep

We'd like to introduce you to an Ayurvedic recipe for improved sleep and vitality. The ingredients consist of different Rasayanas, which give us Oja again. According to Ayurveda, Oja is a substance in the body that gives us strength and vitality and supports our immune system.

Many things diminish Oja, including stress or even unpleasant emotions. We need good sleep to be able to cope with these things.

The recipe also uses Ashwaganda, a spice that calms Vata and helps us to sleep well. Saffron is also a potent spice with many benefits that is said to soothe the nerves.

This Ayurvedic sleep elixir is best drunk after dinner. It helps encourage you to come down from a hard day and get ready for sleep.

Soothing Sleep Elixir with Saffron

Ingredients for the Almond Milk

  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 cup of raw almonds
  • a pinch of salt

Ingredients for the Elixir

  • 4 pitted dates
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ½ tbsp cardamom
  • ½ tbsp saffron
  • ¼ tsp Ashwagandha powder (optional)

Preparation of the Almond Milk

  1. Put the almonds in a bowl and cover them with water. Let them soak for six to eight hours overnight.
  2. Then drain the water and rinse the almonds well.
  3. Remove the skin from the almonds and place them in a blender. Add the 4 cups of water and the pinch of salt and mix everything until a creamy to frothy liquid is formed.
  4. Sieve through a cloth or fine-mesh sieve. The almond milk lasts for three to five days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Preparation of the Elixir

  1. Warm the almond milk slowly in a small saucepan.
  2. Put the warm almond milk in a blender together with all other ingredients and mix well.
  3. Pour everything into a cup and drink slowly before going to sleep.
